Michelle Walker is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the Commonwealth of Virginia and is also credentialed as a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor (RPT-S™) through the Association for Play Therapy. Michelle has a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Southern California. She has been practicing since 2014 in a variety of settings, such as Community Mental Health, Private Practice, and Military Treatment Facilities.
As a Play Therapist, Michelle believes that all children have the right to a safe therapeutic environment where they can process their thoughts and feelings in their primary language, which we call play. Play is a developmentally appropriate way for children to learn, grow, and build self-awareness. She specializes in working with early childhood and elementary school-aged children through a humanistic theoretical lens and utilizes a Child-Centered Play Therapy model. Along with common emotional and behavioral issues seen in early childhood, Michelle also has additional experience working with children struggling with separation anxiety, attachment, poor self-esteem, grief and loss, and Military Family life issues. Michelle takes a collaborative approach with caregivers and values the child-caregiver relationship.
Michelle has created a play therapy training program and presents on numerous play therapy topics, provides play therapy supervision, and is a board approved clinical social work supervisor. She also serves on the communications committee with the Virginia Association for Play Therapy, is a regional leader of the Northern VA chapter of the Virginia Association for Play Therapy, and was recognized as the Virginia Play Therapist of the Year in 2022!
